Waste
A public event will inevitably generate a certain amount of waste and the Montreux Jazz Festival’s mission is to limit its creation while at the same time maximizing sorting and recycling.
Last year’s efforts and new procedures saw the Montreux Jazz Festival win the Swiss Recycling Award for 2014 in the communication category. This prize rewards the teamwork aimed at achieving a near 100% sorting rate for recyclables, as well as the awareness campaign on the Festival grounds.
On site, this goal manifests itself in the following ways:
- returning the site to its original state on a daily basis;
- a team that works 24 hours a day, sorting trash and ensuring the cleanliness of the festival areas;
- An eco-compatible waste plant;
- Prevention and information for the public, in partnership with the Summit Foundation, to promote eco-friendly measures.
The Festival is able to optimize its waste management thanks to past experience, plus its participation with experts in the field:
- la Commune de Montreux et son Service de Voirie
- PET recycling
- IGSU : the Interest Group for a Clean Environment in Switzerland who is working together with the private sector against littering
- IGORA : collecting and recycling of used aluminium beverage cans
- Summit Foundation
- Retripa SA
- Chevalley Transports
Car pooling
The Montreux Jazz Festival collaborates with non-profit organization e-covoiturage.ch in order to provide a simple and ecological service to festivalgoers. Carpooling helps to increase the cars load factor and thus reduces pollution, greenhouse gaz emissions and nonrenewable energy use.
Prev' Spot
Prev' Spot is an area of the Festival located on the lakeside promenade that provides a meet-up place and a forum for open discussions on the subject of prevention. This free zone aims to provide a pleasant day for all and is hosted by professionals involved with the following associations. These specialists are all permanently in touch with the infirmary, whose staff are also all professionals.
Prev’ Spot also works closely with HES-SO (Sion, Valais). Nursing students work on various community health projects thematically linked to the Festival, and they design a prevention project that they implement on site during the Festival.
The last few years, Prev’ Spot has been enhanced by a team of 11 staff members specialized in nursing, psychiatry, and medicine. Each evening they provide counseling on alcohol and substance abuse prevention, and in the afternoons they organize more general thematic activities.
Above all, Prev' Spot is a place of relaxation, exchange and discussion in the heart of a festive environment.
Charte FestiPlus
Le Festival a adhéré à la charte de prévention FestiPlus et s’engage par conséquent à améliorer le bien-être du public, en offrant un accès à des prestations de qualité en matière de prévention des risques liés aux abus d’alcool et à d’autres substances psychotropes.
Accessibility
Optimal access to our spaces is a priority for the Montreux Jazz Festival.
The Procap association is our accessibility partner. The Festival grounds are featured on Procap’s site, accessibilite.ch, which provides information on the accessibility of Swiss cultural events for persons with reduced mobility, sight, or hearing.
This year, in cooperation with Procap, we are taking the extra step of organizing “Singing Hands Day”. This free event will take place on Saturday 18 July with a focus on hearing impairment. Come to Montreux for a concert translated into sign language!
